Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very. Very. Gritty. I’m black. Trust me. I’ve used tons of Shea butter within my life, and I promise you that all of the prior products I have used have EASILY emulsified in my hands. I’m a full time student, and I work full time. I do not have the energy or the minutes to stand around waiting for my shea butter to melt. Overall, I’m giving the product 2 stars because it is highly moisturizing, but I’m not giving it 3 because this is a million dollar corporation. There is no excuse as to why me, the consumer, has to sit my shea butter in the microwave and THEN refreeze it, to get the desired consistency, so that I don’t have to stand around for 15 minutes rubbing my skin off. I paid for quality and I paid to not have to blend my shea butter. I shouldn’t be doing shea moisture’s job for them. And I would love to be easy on them, but I’m giving this review because your products are typically good. So, I don’t think this is acceptable from you all. Tough love. Blend the butter, my arms are tired.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultimate Go To Beauty Product I have used this product for many years now . This is not my first review of it, and surely not the last. It is my ultimate Go To for moisturizing every part of myself , from face, body, to hair, hands and nails. The price is well worth + for the quality, and the quantity, A little, and I mean a teeny dab, in any capacity, goes a long way. I use to concoct my own face moisturizer blend - the butter has healed and keeps at bay the sensitive, red and easily irritated areas of my face. I have not had a problem with flakes and dryness in a good couple of years. I can blend it with other products, or use on it`s own . I have totally recommended to friends that have dry, tight, red, cracked and flakey skin on face. And it works with any age - being non comedogenic . The best in anti aging ! It has a small amount of natural sunscreen properties. I swear it has been such a help to keep my aging skin at bay - in a good place to stay looking good for a long time. I use on my hands, and nails, sometimes on my lips . I will scrunch into ends of my hair to combat or ease dryness, espcially if I am to shampoo soon. The last few days, I`ve combined a tiny dab in with my self tanner to apply more smoothly , evenly, and for more moisture . I also use, and recommend to blend with coconut oil, and a fave body lotion for a great body butter ! I looove this product .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I Love Me Some Shea Butter! I love me some shea butter! And this 100% raw shea butter is perfect for almost everything. I was able to use this literally from head to toe. From using on me and my daughter’s hair all the way to my dry and cracked feet, it was on point with moisture. It is also very good with all the benefits shea butter provides. Rated 4 out of 5 by from better for body this butter smells like shea butter but not too strong like it. since it is great for the body it great for the scalp but not the hair strand itself. it greasy for sure. so if you have irritated scalp this will be great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing for dry skin I typically don’t like overly greasy ointments but I will make an exception for this one. It looks like it’s gritty but once it warms in your hand, it melts easily and is smooth to apply. Plus it’s 100% Shea Butter so I know that it’s all good stuff. This has been perfect for my feet and the dry spots like knees and elbows and it softens the skin immediately. My dad also likes this for his knuckles which dry out a lot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes me believe in miracles. I’ve had color damage to my mixed hair for about a year now and I’ve been so upset about losing my curls. I bought this for my dry skin, but I kept hearing about its healing properties and how it’s good for hair. I put it in my hair and slept on it and had an OVERNIGHT difference. Not only did I have curls, but full, thick, bouncy curls that I haven’t had since bleaching my hair. My friends and family noticed immediately. I thought it was a fluke, but it happens every time! I seriously thought I’d destroyed my curls forever and I’d have to cut it super short and never color it again. I have a blond balayage and it’s bouncing with the rest of my natural color now. 100% a miracle worker. Skip the expensive keratin treatments and try this first. Unreal.

I recently bought a jar of the Shea butter, it’s not melting in my hands when rubbing it together, house is warm and hands are warm, and it’s still gritty, do I need to do anything else?

Asked by: Tyniademom
Put it in the microwave a minute and a half ( depends on the power) freeze it and ready to use, it’ll melt now in your hands, keep it at room temperature in a dark area!

I have used this product for about a week and days later my whole body turned red, feverish and my lips are swollen. I have used shea moisture products before and have never had a problem, can it be the product was expired?

Asked by: Ash97
Hi Ash97, We are sorry to hear of your experience. We recommend to discontinue use and to contact your physician to see if you have an allergy to shea butter.

I need help! 3 out of the 4 containers of shea butter are gritty. Why an what can be done. This is a key ingredient to my husbands skin condition to heal. An not cheap.

Asked by: Leah
Shea butter is good for skin and hair because of its unique fatty acid composition, but that same blend of fatty acids can sometimes result in variations in appearance and composition. Shea butter can vary from completely smooth, to slightly grainy, to very grainy and a little oily. All of these are normal variations, and none of them affect the efficacy of the shea butter. If the shea butter cools quickly, the solids don't have time to form crystals, and the butter appears smooth. If they cool slowly, the fatty acids can crystallize into large clumps, which causes the appearance of graininess. When shea butter is used, however, all of the fatty acids remelt to do their work, so the grainy appearance at room temperature will become softer and smoother. The most common methods for warming shea butter will be to warm the product under warm water (the higher the temperature of the water, the faster it will soften), or to massage the butter in between hands. The friction and body heat will soften the butter.
