Rated 5 out of 5 by from how to fix gritty Shea butter there is nothing wrong with Shea butter that is at first hard and gritty. shea butter has different fatty acids that melt and solidify at slightly different temps. if you receive a gritty or anything but smooth and melts at body temp, then you only need to re melt it and put it in the freezer to solidify at the same time. so i put mine in the microwave for a minute or less at a time, checking and stirring until it is completely melted. then place it in the freezer until it is completely frozen. when you take it out and it comes to room temperature it will be the shea butter you expected. if you wish right when it is first getting hard again you can whip it with a mixer. then Let it finish solidifying. or you can do this later. i usually just let it come to room temp and stir it good. if it still has any grittiness, re melt and do it again. while it is melted you could add in essential oils of your choice, or not. the cocoa butter blend also may become gritty for the same reason. use the same technique on it as well. easy peasy! this is only because it has melted during shipping and didn't solidify at an even temp. the freezer works the best. now you know :)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Barely melts in your hands I was excited when I found this product. It is unusable. It barely melts and it stays in little clumps all over your face and body. How the heck are you supposed to use it?

I've been using Shea Moisture products for a few years now and am so excited about this particular one. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Product I was really surprised to see this hidden at my local Walgreens, and when I saw I was so excited since I love Shea butter and Shea Moisture. I use this all over my body including my face immediately after a shower on damp skin. This makes my dry skin so moisturized! I also use on my lips as a lip balm. Shea Moisture has done it again with an amazing new product

Does this have any natural sunscreen value?

Asked by: Nary
Raw shea butter is known to have a low SPF, we do not recommend using it as a sunscreen as it is not enough to completely protect your skin from damage caused by UV rays. You can incorporate it into your sun care routine for added protection!

I just bought a jar of the 100% raw shea butter this morning.  I opened it when I got home and there's a layer of white powder across the top. Am I supposed to mix this into the rest of the product or is it dried out? Thank you

Asked by: Debbie
White powder??!! Is that a preservative substance??????

Is this Grade A or Grade B?

Asked by: Kchan
Hello Kchan, There is no industry adopted standard or grade for shea butter quality nor a Shea industry recognized grading system. The recognized classifications are based on how it is made.

What's the best way to use this to moisturize my hair and scalp if my hair is longer than wave length?

Asked by: Wavy Jones
We recommend heating the product in between your hands until melted, then apply a small amount to hair and scalp as to not weigh hair down. This can be used as an overnight treatment or for daily conditioning.

Asked by: MAUREEN
Shea butter is good for skin and hair because of its unique fatty acid composition, but that same blend of fatty acids can sometimes result in variations in appearance depending on how the butter is heated and cooled, as well as normal variation in composition. Shea butter can vary from completely smooth, to slightly grainy, to very grainy and a little oily. All of these are normal variations, and none of them affect the efficacy of the shea butter. If the shea butter cools quickly, the solids don't have time to form crystals, and the butter appears smooth. If they cool slowly, the fatty acids can crystallize into large clumps, which causes the appearance of graininess. Regardless of appearance, the butter should be warmed in the hands until melted, then applied to skin or hair.
