Rated 5 out of 5 by from Moisture Shave Butter for a most superior shave I am into wet shaving using a straight razor and I prefer to use non lathering gels, creams, and butters. My face just feels better using these types of products. Shea Moisture Shave Butter is the most superior shave product I have ever used. The blade glides through my whiskers like butter for a very close shave, where one pass will almost do. Also it moisturizes the face all at the same time. There are similar products but this is the best I have ever used by far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bald and safety razor I have been using a safety razor for about 2 years, on my face and my head. I have discovered it takes to long to shave my head with it so I have reverted to a disposable razor for my head. I think its called bald headz or something. Well onto this product, using this shaving creme has definitely turned my disposable razor experience to a genuine clean issue free shave. This product does not work like any other product I've used and when shaving my head its going to be the last product I use. I am so satisfied that I felt I needed to share, I usually don't. I still use the saftey razor on my face so I use the other product because it pairs well and I'm use to it but on my head its definetly sheamoisture.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from "A little goes a long way" Best shave creme I have ever used. I was used to heavy foam creams from a can until I spoke to a professional. He explained a clear or lotion creme allows you to better see what you are shaving and do more to moisturize the skin while shaving. Shea Moisture African Black Soap Shave Butter Creme is that kind of creme. If you are looking for foamy lather like Gillette or Barbisol this is not it. Because it doesn't foam you don't need much. I do wet my skin before applying a little with my index and middle fingers. Be careful not to use too much as it will clog your razor. Remember as advertised, "A little goes a long way". The scent is mild, but masculine. I use fragrance free soaps, lotions and detergents as I get breakouts and headaches from heavily scented items. The light scent of the shave butter allows me to where a cologne that doesn't clash with five other scents. Great shave from a great product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bad Smell and Texture I'm just using this shave cream to get rid of it, but the experience is really poor. The smell is like a waxy product that is 10 years out of date. The resulting shave is not close and my face feels as if I used an old razor blade, even though it's new. Sorry, just saying'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mr. I am 70 years old and have been shaving with a straight razor for 40 of those years. I have never had such a great, close and smooth shave as I have with this product. I am really amazed at how this stuff works. I rub this in, then lather up and find it enhances the shaving experience to the point of being an enjoyable event. I now look forward every morning to shaving.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from let's give guys a REAL review YOU WANT TO READ THIS so far all these reviews just say how nice it is etc. but there is more. i have shaved with cheap razors, expensive ones, and dealt with every brand cream and after shave there is. i began using the art of shaving products granted it was expensive, gave literally the best without a doubt insane close and awesome man smelling shave i have had. when i say it is the best, it creates a traditional lather and you feel like a million bucks. so expensive though so from body to hair to shaving i switched everything to shea moisture now. back to shaving. i found out every man jack has a comparable lather, almost like a cream from a shaving bottle, so you don't really need to water a brush, in a tub, worked great, just as good really, only 1 scent, incredibly cheaper, but then you use their stuff, which is hard to find all their products. i was super hesitant after the 1st shave with this product. i did not like the lather creme. it wasn't a lather. and i noticed a lot of companies are coming out with these soft lotion like cremes and i just don't like them. and this became something i didn't like but continued to try because of how cheap it is compared to the art of shaving. it says with a brush or fingers to apply, but with your hands it just applies, and with the brush i couldn't get it to work. typical lathers which is how i treated this, use water and foam up. but water took this stuff right out. finally, decided to try the brush i have again, without water, seeing how it doesn't mention water on the shea label. couple times, i found the exact shave i got with the art of shaving! no more shadow. i think people here leaving reviews are comparing it to regular bottle shaving creams like gilette etc and that is not a good comparison. but i was comparing to the art of shaving, which even after this review i consider amazing product, anythign they have works insane. but for real, wayyy expensive. i have no more shadow on my neck, the hairs stood up like the art of shaving technique, because my neck hair grows sideways, and i got a sweet, smooth, clean skin looking, no shadow neck (i keep a beard). i actually like the pre lotion, again, with the art of shaving method, i got used to a pre shave oil and recommend it to anyone, smells nice also. don't know how to really describe the scent but not girly, not musky, and not fake axe smelling or gilette deodorant smelling. the after shave reminds me of alcohol, like legit vodka, has a hint, but feels good. the art of shaving would leave me red a little afterwards with the their 1 of 2 after lotions, but go away, i have sensative skin so i dealt with it. i notice with this shea after shave my skin is red but clears 5 times faster, and unlike typical liquid after shave oils, this doesn;t burn or sting my neck (don't use a dull razor). needles to say, finally figuring out how to use this in the sense of a 3 step man's shave with creme, i now highly praise and recommend it to anybody - GET YOURSELF A SHAVING BRUSH, apply pre shave oil, spin dry brush in creme, apply, and shave, then after shave oil. mm mm good

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ehhh I have been using this product for a week now. It will not lather. No matter how hot I get my brush and bowl, the creme goes on cold (defeats the purpose of a post-shower shave in a hot steamy bathroom). It goes on like a hand lotion that won't absorb into the skin. It clogs the razor. I am leaving more stubble with each shave because of the irritation it is causing. I have been a wet, safety-razor shaver for nearly two years and have been trying various soaps/cremes to find my keeper. This is not it. It has been over a year since I have had nicks and/or irritation...until this week.

I read the reviews and one really gave an answer but I would appreciate the party line. "How are you supposed to apply this to your face?" Kind of smear it on and then shave? I use a shave brush, so get the brush hot and wet and try to create a lather?

Asked by: ThomDavies2053
I use my fingertips, but considering a brush. I wet my face and head before putting a little on my fingertips. I then rub it on my scalp and beard. It doesn't lather a lot with the fingertips but offers a close, smooth shave. Be careful not to apply too much as it will take extra effort to clean your blades between strokes. I love the overall results and have recommended it to several of my friends.

So thick and slick had to use a spoon to get any out. How do you get a little and put it on. Bout ready to pitch the goo. Shave was miserable. Couldn't get any onto my face.
