Works well with smoothie not drying
I really like this gel it’s cool by itself nice hold no frizz but you gotta use a good amount, but works best with the 369 smoothie the combination is light and not drying! Works best on set to damp hair, it feel like it drying your hair when u first put it on but it’s really not when you rinse or re-wet your hair it’s very soft and moisturized. It dose leave a cast but crunches out immediately . Fragrance is over powering but others smell it wnd love it! I have 3c hair with very fine strands

It smells great, but when it dries it is a flaky mess! It did not define either.

Not Your Usual Gel
Since this is a SheaMoisture product, I wasn't expecting it to be anything like your everyday gel, however, I did have everyday gel expectations for it and it didn't meet them. This is my first time using it. I also used the Omega 3-6-9 smoothie with it in my wash and go. It gave my 3c/4a curls very light hold, but did nothing in the clumping department. My curls clump easily with thicker gels like EcoStyler and I'm guessing because this gel is more watery, serum like that it just didn't have the same effect of a normal gel when distributed. This was fine; I just used the shingling method instead and I ended up with decently defined curls, but with a bit more frizz than I'm used to. The texture of my hair once it dried was also kind of odd. My curls felt soft in an artificial way, as if there was some film on top of it that I just couldn't scrunch out unlike with a normal gel. For some this may not necessarily be a downside, since this means that the gel does soften your hair, but for me it just felt weird because my hair was soft in a way that I'm uncomfortable with. As far as definition and shine are concerned, I did get a a lot of definition on my 3c sections, not so much definition or shine on the 4a-ish sections, and little to no shine on my 3c sections. The product itself has a powerful, floral smell that is honestly my least favorite out of all Shea products. I can get pass this, but if you hate strong scents such as this then you should definitely skip this line.
All in all, the gel works. In my opinion it would work well as a wash and go product for looser curls than type 4. Unless you were using it to set your hair in a braid-out, twist-out, etc. I would not recommend this for tight curls.

Good alternative to the Curling Gel Souffle
This gel is much thinner than the curling gel souffle but provides a great hold without the sticky feeling of the souffle. I used this to style my twists and I got excellent hold, shine, and curl definition. I have fine to medium hair at the roots that gets thicker throughout the back of my head. If I had to pick a curl patter I would say I am a 3c/4a.
I reapplied this multiple times during a week without getting buildup. This dries with a gel cast but that is easily removed with oil or scrunching it out. Since this is so loose in consistency it would be great if SheaMoisture packaged this in a pump bottle to avoid messy application.
