Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Old formula is King! Never used the new formula for this. If you're lucky you can still find the old formula in stores. I saw 2 of them at CVS and bought both! Every ingredient is natural and not a chemical compound like the new formula. Why change what works? Oh well good things never last smh. Im going to savor these shampoos. It really improves your hair health and makes it grow faster while giving good moisture. Smells great! I only recommend to buy if it is the old formula

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product change without any warning!!! “Becca03 · 25 days ago Say what you will, the formula was changed Like many of us curly girls; I check the ingredients list of any product I purchase. Your original formula of this and many of your products worked great. Since your company never advised there was a change in the formula, I continued to blindly purchase a product I researched and trusted. I first noticed a difference in the physical feel of the. shampoo and in how my hair felt after shampooing. The original formula left my hair feeling clean yet soft, not stripped of moisture. I sometimes used other CG friendly shampoos, but the last few months I've only used this shampoo. Although I deep condition once a week, I noticed my hair has been getting drier. I saw complaints about the change online. I decided to check the ingredients list again and clearly, they are not the same. Your original customers, myself included, are intelligent consumers. Please do not insult our intelligence and continue to insist it's the same formula. The product feels different, performs different, and leaves my hair different than the previous formula with an entirely different ingredient list. I will no longer purchase any of your products. Now, there are other great CG friendly lines to choose from. Hopefully, you will listen to the feedback from your long time customers that helped establish the product line you are today, and you'll bring back the original products we all loved and raved about. If that occurs, you will win me back as a customer.” I couldn’t have said this better than the past customer that commented. I was horrified how my hair felt after shampooing, and I had unnecessary hair loss. There was no moisture in my hair, and it took me an extra hour trying to get my hair back to a manageable state. Now I have to spend money and time finding a new product, which will likely cause more damage to my healthy hair. I feel terrible about vouching for this product and recommending it to others. I had no idea the quality changed. I am very disappointed. The company should have been transparent to its customers by adding “New Formula” to the label.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from FORUMLA CHANGED for my favorite shampoo of all tim This shampoo used to be the best on the market with amazing smell and quality. But the recipe was changed recently. Another mega-company buys a small brand and throws quality out the window in the name of profit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I am a big fan of your products and overall company. The body washes are amazing but the shampoos are a big NO. My hair feels greasy and oily after washing it with this shampoo and conditioner. I went to my hair salon to get my hair washed, cut, and blow-dried and the girl who was washing my hair told me that the shampoo she was using to wash my hair was not removing the grease from my hair and that it was most likely due to the residue left by my everyday shampoo and conditioner (this one). She had to shampoo and rinse my hair 2 times with a clarifying shampoo that is made specifically to remove such residue left on hair by the bad ingredients in a shampoo/conditioner. I felt embarrassed. I will no longer be using this shampoo because of the grease that is left on my hair even after dedicating 5 minutes in the shower for just rinsing my hair to make sure this layer of grease is not caused by improper rinsing. From the reviews I have read, this shampoo used to be amazing but it is evident that some ingredients have been changed/replaced. Very disappointed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed Reading these reviews make sense now! Recently I bought the kids Mango and carrot and noticed bits of clump in the conditioner and thought nothing of it but then it really wasn’t moisturizing their hair like normal so I threw it out and bought another from a different store. But the same thing happened so I returned it and emailed SM.(I still haven’t heard from anyone) In the email I wasn’t demanding my money back or some type of apology, I simply wrote them wanting to make them aware because I believed in this company and loved their product. I just bought the skin care line, I hope it works!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My hair feels like it's RUINED First-time buyer here. I have long, thick, naturally wavy hair. I chose this stuff based on reviews online that must have been for this "old formula" that everyone else keeps mentioning, because it sounded like it would be just what I needed for my sensitive scalp. Flash forward a few weeks and now my hair is dry and has a strange, almost waxy texture that feels like straw, it's so frizzy at the ends that I have to keep it tied back, and frankly it feels like it's ruined! I've NEVER had a shampoo/conditioner do this before! My hair has NEVER been like this! I feel like the only way to fix it at this point is to lop off a good 5-6 inches! Disappointed isn't a strong enough word. I liked the feel-good story about this company's origin, and thought I would be supporting a company that respected its roots and customers (only ever heard high praises from long-time users). If what people are saying regarding Shea Moisture's switch from natural ingredients to chemicals is true, then obviously something's gone very wrong here. I was really hopeful for this stuff, but it seems I'll have to keep looking. No thanks, next.

Will Shea Moisture consider using the previous formula? I LOVED this shampoo before they switched. The ingredients are NOT the same now and my hair was VERY tangled and dry using this new formula. PLEASE bring the old one back!

Asked by: Mia07
Speaking for myself, when products do not have all those extra polymers, etc and are non sulfate my hair will tangle if I dont take the time to wash it after first detangling and then while washing I carefully wash it from scalp to ends. This helps my hair to not tangle. I rinse it with from my scalp to my ends while rubbing the shampoo or conditioner out and ensuring I'm not tangling my hair. Then my hair is smooth. I only learned this from trial and error. Then I can comb my hair through without knots etc. Section by section. I hope this helps. I love the shea shampoo and shea conditioner on my transitioning hair in prep for locking it. It smells great too. It's working for me.

When are you going to bring back the formulas that made your company a gobal brand in the first place? When are you going to stop lying to consumers? CHEMISTS have called you out!! Freaking chemists!!! Just FIX this mess already!!!

Any changes you see to our ingredient lists have been done to more closely align with different regulatory requirements – but never efficacy.

Why is shea butter listed so much lower on the ingredient list than it used to be? And why is the product white now instead of yellow?

Asked by: Stacey
Since we use natural and organic ingredients, color and consistency can vary batch to batch. Any updates that you'll ever see to our ingredients or labels are done in efforts to continually ensure our products meet the highest performance and regulatory standards and to respond to the needs of our community.

My hair is high porosity and dry and breaking what should I use?

Asked by: Wandawoman
For High porosity hair we recommend our High Porosity Line, Raw Shea collection, as well as, our Jamaican Black Castor Oil collection. All of our collections can be mixed and matched based on what works best for you.

I'm not happy with the new formula - it's clearly a different color and consistency. You claim that the ingredients are the same but just listed differently to be INCI compliant, but where is the aloe? The INCI name for aloe is still aloe.

Is the shampoo ok for low porosity fine and thin straight hair?

Asked by: Sarah
This is best for higher porosity hair types.

What do you mean by hair porosity, and how do I figure out if my hair is porus.

Asked by: Lulita
Hi Lulita, Porosity refers to the cuticles on your hair strands. Open cuticles is generally for high porsity, while closed cuticles is for low porosity. This affects how will your hair absorbs moisture and retains that moisture. We recommend placing a few clean strands of hair into a bowl of water. Let it sit there for a moment, then when you return, see if it is floating (low porosity) or if it has sunk (high porosity). There will be varying levels of porosity and depends on each user.

Is Shea Moisture considering bringing back the old formula of this shampoo? The one with the honeysuckle extracts and the much shorter and easier to pronounce ingredients list. I really miss that shampoo and haven't found a suitable alternate!

Asked by: troy0530
Hi Troy0530, SheaMoisture continues to make the same natural products it always have, that feature botanically-derived ingredients like vegetable butters, plant extracts, and of course organic shea butter. The only thing that has changed is that as our small family-owned company has grown into a larger family, we have changed our labels to be compliant with global regulations on how we list our ingredients. In order for all companies around the world to be consistent, we are required to use a specific set of names for things called the INCI list: the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. Because this list is used around the world in many languages, the words can be a little unfamiliar and technical-sounding. So for example, our sugar beet cleanser is now listed as decyl glucoside. Even something as simple as Neem Oil, a favorite scalp treatment, becomes Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil. Yes, the label now sounds different and a lot more like chemicals, but these are the same safe natural ingredients we have always used, just with different names.
