Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burns! I love using face masks and I’m not allergic to anything, but this face mask burns! I put it on and immediately I left it burn really bad on my nose and cheeks but i touched it out. Waited a few more minutes and had to take it off because the pain got so bad. Once I removed it, my face was bright red in only the areas I had the mask! I will say my skin does feel smooth now, but I could get that from another mask that doesn’t burn.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product Review Feels nice after use. A little tingly but no burning. I don't care for the smell but it's tolerable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely excellent This makes my skin feel phenomenal. I have honestly never tried/had a better face mask. My skin can be irritating because of the dryness, but after using this mask it’s like I have already put on foundation, so soft! I’m beyond happy with my purchase

Rated 1 out of 5 by from IT BURNS Should be used as a torture device. It was hayfever season so the claim that it helps 'sooth and calm skin' was very appealing. NOPE! I put this product forged in hellfire on my face and nearly cried from the pain! Optimistically I waited until my skin recovered from intense nose wiping and tried it again. STILL NOPE! It feels like it's trying to sear my face off it burns that much. Not once have I had an issue even close to this before. Ill be giving it to my sister the next time she is mean to me

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product not for all skin types dry/oily I love Thai product I think it’s not for all skin types but my is between dry and a little oily. I been using this product for about 3 years I always used the small packages I love the ingredients. Tbh I would recommend this for people with my type of skin it cleans your pores and makes you skin feel fresh and clean. I would probably recommend using sunscreen after to make sure you don’t leave your skin vulnerable to the sun. The ingredients are amazing and good for your skin. Reason the mask may burn a little is because of the oils they add it really goes in and cleans and hydrates the skin. Yes it might leave a little red on the face but that’s part of doing the job I’ve made home mask and add almost the same type of oils does the same thing but it’s not harmful to my face. It goes away.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Smells great, bad for sensitive skin I still use this because it smells amazing and feels great going on. However it does leave me with a vague burning sensation over sensitive areas of my face. Once I used it right affer getting out the shower and it burned so bad it brought tears to my eyes. If you have sensitive skin I would only use this on dry, room temp skin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned and left skin RED My skin is pretty neutral without too much dryness or oiliness. I got this mask mostly for my mom who has dry, sensitive skin. I can take most masks without ANY redness. Immediately after application it started tingling but that’s not an uncommon sensation so I rode it out. Got more uncomfortable and after the recommended 10 minutes this is what my face looked like. There is a clear line between my usual skin tone and redness where the mask was.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Active My skin feels nice. Yes, it was tingly but not burning my face. I used a wet washcloth to wipe it off and it feels tight and hydrated. Not sure if I'd use it in a professional environment :/

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned my face!! The mask went on great and smells okay, but burned my face so bad I couldn't keep it on longer than 2 minutes. I ran to the sink so fast to get it off my face and was left with red/irritated skin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Yeah..NO!! This product is terrible and I highly recommend you not to use it. I'm brown skin and this product turned me a light red. Also this product burns so bad, I did not have it on longer than 30 seconds. If I could give the product 0 stars I would, but please save your money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good! This mask helped hydrate my skin, but it did smell weird and it burned. This face mask burned bad when I had it on, but it did not burn my skin or face. Once I washed it off I felt refreshed and everything with my skin was fine. I do have sensitive skin also so I like this face mask but it doesn’t do wonders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ❤️ Love Smells amazing feels awesome, I have sensitive skin and scalp psoriasis, I used the mask on the edges of my scalp, washed it off and felt refreshed! I forgot to mention skin discoloration in certain areas of my face , after using the mask a couple of time I feel like it is helping. I don’t see peeling or dryness, so I feel like this product is pretty legit!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hate it The mask burnt my face, is small in size, and others have been burnt much worse than me by this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Another red reaction to product Super bummed that I had a bad reaction to this one too. I really wanted to find success with a Shea Moisture skincare product bc I love that it's fair trade and cruelty free-for-all but once again I broke out in a sunburn-like red rash :( This time I at least tested my skin so my whole face wasn't red for hours! Not sure what the ingredient is that is causing this as I looked at the list and it was different from the items in the last Shea Moisture product that did this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burns, left with RED FACE I have school in the morning and my skin looks redder than when I surfed in Southern California all day without sunscreen on, and it’s showing no sign of fading. This is after having the mask in for under 30 seconds. NOT gentle. NOT moisturizing. NOT calming WHATSOEVER. It says to leave on for 10 minutes, I cannot even imaging what that would feel/look like. DO NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR FACE YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A no-no for those with eczema/sensitive skin!!!!! I have eczema on my face and hands which has improved drastically over the past few months. I noticed today that my skin was getting a bit too dry for my liking so I used this mask given to me by a friend. Within a minute of applying the product on my face, it started to burn horribly and I could literally see bright red poking through...I washed it off in a panic but I wasn’t quick enough—I now have the worst eczema breakout on my face that I’ve ever had. I am beyond upset about this, my face is covered in bumps and is fire truck red. I never write reviews but I feel obligated to share this with my sensitive skin friends. Use this product at your own risk!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Big red mistake I don’t have the most sensitive skin out there and have used a variety of products but I’ve never had quite a result as after using this mask. It didn’t burn when being put on, just a normal feeling of tightness that comes with any mud mask, but after I have washed it off I was left with red skin that looks like I have a sunburn. I am now reading all the reviews of the less fortunate that ended up in the same boat as myself. I wish I could say it was worth some miracle effect but I didn’t feel any benefit after using it. Very disappointed and this might be the last chance I’ve given to any Shea Moisture products after multiple failures with their hair line as well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Immediate burning sensation This mask caused a burning sensation the second I applied it, especially where I have larger more open pores like on my cheeks. I washed it off immediately. Very disappointed in this product, I've always loved everything else from this company

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned my face and left it red This mask was a shocker to me. As others have said it burned intensely when I put it on, and once removed it left my skin bright red. It has been 3 days and the redness is going down but my skin is still extremely raw and tender. I would not risk using this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Smells great but burned so bad I was trying to have a relaxing night of me-time and ended up burning my face when I put this on. It smells fantastic but the second I put it on, my skin turned red and it burned. I thought maybe this would subside but after a couple of minutes it had not so I frantically washed it off my tomatoface. “Soothing” was not a fair word to put on the packaging. I think I’m okay after icing my face but I am worried about using other sheamoisture face masks. It’s a shame since I enjoy the body wash so much.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from made my face beet red i used this product, and my face burned as i put it on, and i had to take it off in less than 1 minute cause it was burning too much and now as a result not smooth and very red and feels hot and burns.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible mask The second I put this mask on i could not take the burning sensation. My face is bright red and I cannot get rid of this. I love Shea products but I will definitely be returning this ASAP.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from burns like crazy I've never had a problem with shea moisture in fact, my daily routine consists of a wide variety of their products (shampoos, conditioners, moisturizer, body wash, lotion) but this mask burned like crazy. I had it on for less than 2 minutes and needed to rinse it off immediately. My face was bright red and was warm to the touch for about an hour after rinsing it off. I'm assuming I had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, not sure what though as I have used similar things before (different brands). If you have sensitive skin, or have had allergic reactions before, I do not recommend this product. Research the ingredients to make sure you won't have any type of reaction.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Use Caution I love Shea Moisture products, but this product is rouggghhhh. It burns immediately upon contact. I think it would help to re-label this as a heavy duty deep moisturizing exfoliator, something along those lines. When I bought it I thought because it was for dry skin it would be mild, and that is just not the case. I would take "non-drying" out of the description as well, as I assumed it meant it would stay moist on my face (I know, it'sa clay mask, what do I expect, but it was a little confusing). It really does deliver though- very smooth skin afterward, although the burning lives on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from made my skin more dry This mask burned when I first put it on, and I don’t even have sensitive skin. I put the mask on two nights ago and my skin is more dry than it was before I even used it.

The product is really dry to the touch and hard to spread across my skin. Should I apply water to my face before use to help it spread? Or is it best to apply to a dry face?

Asked by: don77
We suggest warming the product in your hands before application.

Is the burning sensation normal?

Asked by: Openletter
A tingling sensation is often normal as it signals the toxins and impurities being lifted from pores. Burning can signal an allergic reaction to an ingredient in this product, we recommend consulting a physician to find which ingredient is causing this reaction.
