Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned my face and left it red This mask was a shocker to me. As others have said it burned intensely when I put it on, and once removed it left my skin bright red. It has been 3 days and the redness is going down but my skin is still extremely raw and tender. I would not risk using this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Smells great but burned so bad I was trying to have a relaxing night of me-time and ended up burning my face when I put this on. It smells fantastic but the second I put it on, my skin turned red and it burned. I thought maybe this would subside but after a couple of minutes it had not so I frantically washed it off my tomatoface. “Soothing” was not a fair word to put on the packaging. I think I’m okay after icing my face but I am worried about using other sheamoisture face masks. It’s a shame since I enjoy the body wash so much.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible mask The second I put this mask on i could not take the burning sensation. My face is bright red and I cannot get rid of this. I love Shea products but I will definitely be returning this ASAP.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from burns like crazy I've never had a problem with shea moisture in fact, my daily routine consists of a wide variety of their products (shampoos, conditioners, moisturizer, body wash, lotion) but this mask burned like crazy. I had it on for less than 2 minutes and needed to rinse it off immediately. My face was bright red and was warm to the touch for about an hour after rinsing it off. I'm assuming I had an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients, not sure what though as I have used similar things before (different brands). If you have sensitive skin, or have had allergic reactions before, I do not recommend this product. Research the ingredients to make sure you won't have any type of reaction.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Use Caution I love Shea Moisture products, but this product is rouggghhhh. It burns immediately upon contact. I think it would help to re-label this as a heavy duty deep moisturizing exfoliator, something along those lines. When I bought it I thought because it was for dry skin it would be mild, and that is just not the case. I would take "non-drying" out of the description as well, as I assumed it meant it would stay moist on my face (I know, it'sa clay mask, what do I expect, but it was a little confusing). It really does deliver though- very smooth skin afterward, although the burning lives on.

Is the burning sensation normal?

Asked by: Openletter
A tingling sensation is often normal as it signals the toxins and impurities being lifted from pores. Burning can signal an allergic reaction to an ingredient in this product, we recommend consulting a physician to find which ingredient is causing this reaction.

What's the difference between this mask and the regular shea butter mask? Which one is better/more potent?

Asked by: Jess
These masks are the same product offered in different sizes, we periodically updated with changes to ingredients and packaging which is why you may notice a difference in formulas on our site.

I bought 2 Shea Butter Moisture Recovery Treatment Masque w/ Sea Kelp & Argan Oil packets from Target. Says for transitioning HAIR. Directions say apply to HAIR, but ingredients are EXACT same ingredients for the FACIAL mud mask. Typo? Hair or Face?!
