Smells like cookies
I've taken control of my entire hair care routine instead of going to the beauty shop. I'm trying different oils, shampoos, and conditioners. I bought this along with the Jamaican Black Castor Oil shampoo after doing some research. I thought this would be good to use after a relaxer (and neutralizing shampoo) since it helps to restore the pH balance. It did wonders for my hair. I walked into work on Monday and everyone complimented me on how good my hair looks. :) I'm very pleased with the Shea Moisture brand and products. Looking forward to being a long-time customer.

It is much to liquid. It made my hair greasy though it did soften it a bit. Too watery and difficult to apply.

Overall, I do love this leave-in. It smells absolutely amazing, I love the cooling sensation from the peppermint oils, and I have seen some noticeable hair growth over the past month of use. However, for a leave-in with instructions that say to put a "generous" amount, it is very thick. Instead of soft, run your fingers through curls, I get sort of gloppy, sticky, and stiff like I've put gel in my hair. I have to use a very small amount, which to me defeats the purpose of massaging it into your scalp to get that product on there to stimulate the hair growth. Because of that, I use this once a week when I do my deep conditions and then leave it in that day, which I have no problem doing because I do love it! I just wish it was a little less thick so I could use it daily as my leave-in.

I have been looking for products to keep my 4c hair moisturized and I hit the jackpot with this. I've worn a lot of sew-ins and decided to take a break to get my hair back healthy and strong. I started using the shampoo and conditioner for this line (which, the conditioner is awesome as well) but this let my hair feeling hydrated. Even the next morning after washing my hair, it still felt moisturized. A lot of people have complained that they do not like the watery texture but I feel like I can apply it much easier to my hair.

This is my new favourite hair product. I have just started my transitioning process, and his leave in conditioner is a necessity. I apply a generous amount to clean towel dried hair, and then when needed, I add small amounts to my dry hair. My hair is nourished, strong and healthy looking. Really excited to keep using this to see the long lasting benefits.
Definitely recommend to all with natural hair!!

Formula Change? Disappointed in this company...
The JBOC was one of my favorite leave-ins because it's thick texture was great for kinky hair textures. I recently got a new tub on because it was on sale. A side by side comparison with my old one shows that the new product is ridiculously watery! I thought it was a bad batch, but after looking online I realized other people had the same complaints. The new formula is essentially useless on coarse or kinky hair textures and coats my strands with no penetration.
Don't abandon your grassroots support group...I've noticed many changes to product formulas and marketing that seem to less geared towards black natural hair textures and more towards "everyone"....disappointed. Used to rave about every product this company put out. Not so much anymore.

Can I use this product on my beard ?
I used this product on m beard and it does help stimulate beard growth. Just make sure to use it about twice a week and use a good beard oil inbetween to avoid split ends

why did you change the formula? i noticed my most recent jar is whiter & thicker than before. the ingredients are different, too. castor oil is way down the list instead of being 2nd in the old formula.
I have noticed the same thing. I am on my 4th jar and have recommended in the past. The new jars from Amazon, Walmart and cvs now has a bonus size indicator sticker, although the previous batch was the same exact size/weight, with a different label compared with the cover. The ingredients are very different and as you stated castor oil is no longer the main ingredient. Also, the older batch was runnier in texture as well as a light beige color, but the new batch is thicker and browner. The difference is quite evident once you observe the 2 jars. What is interesting too, is that the older more organic jars had an expiry date but the newer bonus sized changed jars do not (observe the bottom of the jar). This indicates that it may not be organic as we think. I am very disappointed and will be returning a set of double jars I recently bought from Amazon.
When I started using this it has significantly made my hair grow and stopped the itching.
I need to know why the earlier batches had expiry dates but the changed batches do not.

Why have the ingredients of this product changed so much? Can i still purchase the old formula?
Good morning Veasleyk
This formula has not changed. Shea Moisture continues to make the same natural products it always have, that feature botanically-derived ingredients like vegetable butters, plant extracts, and of course organic shea butter. The only thing that has changed is that as our small family-owned company has grown into a larger family, we have changed our labels to be compliant with global regulations on how we list our ingredients. Thanks for your inquiry.

Hi Liz 26,
