Rated 1 out of 5 by from The worst product I've ever used on my curly hair I actually hate this product with a passion, and I've never said that about a product before. I bought this after deciding to try the Curly Girl method and take better care of my curls. I'm a curl type 3A and this product was a disaster for me. I tried it twice, thinking I might get better results on the second attempt if I reduced the amount of product I used. Besides my hair looking like a gel'd-up 1980's spiral perm my neck became completely itchy everywhere my hair touched. Read the ingredients (which I did not do before purchasing). Corn Syrup. That isn't listed on this page, but it is on the container Corn Syrup as in a food ingredient? What does this do to your hair? Create a whole lot of stickiness. As in my hair was not dry after 4 hours. It was just covered in sticky sugar. And my neck was just covered in stickiness and itched like crazy. After waiting 4 hours for beautiful curls, I was so disgusted that I had to jump back in the shower.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I used to love you... The consistency is odd now. It is clumpy and will not rub in my hair. I would mix it with the smoothie for perfect results. What happened, and WHY?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from How do you apply it? It’s solid and CRUMBLY I bought this thinking it was going to have a gel like consistency but tell me why it was literally like FIRM JELLO? I dug my fingers into it and it was hard! So I even decided to rub it between my hands and it literally just crumbled into tiny solid pieces which just made a whole mess. It was difficult applying since I was basically forcing to apply a SOLID product in my hair. This just left solid bits in my hair too. I thought it was a bad batch but it seems that Shea Moisture has actually recently changed the consistency. If anyone has purchased this recently, that is why there are hardly any videos on YouTube discussing their recent changes... I love other Shea Moisture products but they really need to bring back the old consistency for this because this is not a “gel” whatsoever.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why?!?!?! Why?!?!?! Why?!?!?! Your ingredients on your website are DIFFERENT from the ingredients on your label! I purchase this gel in bulk because I love(ed) this gel and it was the only gel that actually defined my curls. Now you add corn syrup to you 'renewed' ingredients and the gel is AWFUL (read your reviews! I am not the only one saying this!) It is a jellp consistently and does not breakdown in your hands to apply to the hair; it crumbles and 'clumps' in my hair and it is so difficult to wash out!!!!! Corn syrup is NOT a viable ingredient to put in someone's hair and am so extremely disappointed in this product now!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from please fix ! its not the same product as it was before. if you say that the produce will be different depending on the batch due to natural ingredients, please, by all means, TELL US how to use the lumpy jello? how is it supposed to absorb into the hair? should i add water? heat it up? or just return it?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New Formula is a crumbly mess! Don’t waste your $ I used this religiously and was so grilled to finally find a product that worked in my hair. Imagine my surprise when I purchased a defective container of product. Wrote an email to the company (never heard back). I went to a different location purchased another jar only to come here and learn the formula has changed! This new formula isn’t useable!!!! It is just a crumbly mess that falls out of your hair and all over your floor. So disappointed Sheamoisture!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should have read recent reviews I would have read the recent reviews to this product before I repurchased. Ran out of my older stash and repurchased new tubs. The product in it's current form DOES NOT WORK! It is lumpy, impossible to work into hair, and leaves crumps of gel on my hair. Have you people at shea moisture even tried this new formulation at all? If you did, you never would've let it hit the shelves.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Biggest fail ever. Horrible consistency. Way too chunky for my hair. It doesn’t even absorb into my hair it just rolls right off in chunks. Waste of my money

This product used to be wonderful. It is now a jello, crumby mess. I’m sure you can see the many customer complaints. Do you plan to address this issue? Or will these complaints continue to be ignored?

Asked by: tac03
Our products are made with high percentages of Raw Shea Butter and natural ingredients, the color and consistency may vary from batch to batch. Please email support@sheamoisture.com for further assistance.

Hi there, Is the ingredient change permanent? The gel used to be smooth and is now crumbly and tacky.

Asked by: Kimberly
Yes. Any changes you see to our ingredient lists have been done to more closely align with different labeling requirements - not because of formulation changes. Our products are made with natural and certified organic ingredients.

Does this product (gel souffle) expire? I don't see an expiration date and just realized it has been in my house for years.

Asked by: Csanchez1
Our Products have a 12 month expiration date after it's been opened so you can feel free to continue use until then. We hope this helps out!

Why was the consistency of the Curling Gel Souffle changed? Are you going to change it back to the oringinal consistency? THE NEW CONSISTENCY --HARD GEL FORM DOES NOT WORK IN IT'S CURRENT STATE. IT TAKES TOO MUCH TIME TO WORK WITH IT.

Asked by: Melinda
Since we use natural and organic ingredients, color and consistency can vary batch to batch. This is why we put a label on each product that states, "Natural ingredients may vary in color and consistency. If irritation occurs, discontinue use."

I've purchased your souffle before and loved it. We recently purchased a jar and it doesn't seem to be the same consistency. I cant even get the product out of the jar, the little I did get out won't stay in my daughter's hair. Is this a defective batch?

Asked by: Shelly
I agree with Brenda. The product has a different feel and texture to it but once you rub it in your hands and apply (my son has thick bi-racial hair) it works better than anything we have ever used including other Shea products. His hair now has the same feel when he comes home from school as when he leaves in the am and feels and smells better too,
