Rated 1 out of 5 by Goldie from You've got to be kidding with this You had a great shampoo formula, and then you change it drastically only to bring out a line that I guess is supposed to replace what you had originally?? The old formula was amazing and did what it claims on the package: Deep cleaned. Now we have a super moisturizing formula that cleans nothing at all. And to add insult to injury, you bring out a new (and inferior) ABS line to try to placate everyone who is angry with your formula change. I'm very disappointed and so are a lot of your customers. If you actually cared about who buys your products and puts money in your wallets, you'd change the formula back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Rylee from HORRIBLE I want my money back! This left my hair feeling like straw! It was so hard to detangle and just downright awful, no matter how much I tried to condition it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Eddie from Incredibly disappointed with the new formula The old formula was the best thing that ever happened to my hair and scalp. Nothing else I have ever used has helped relieve the painful itchiness, flakiness, and sebum buildup that plagues me. It made my curls thrive, gave me volume and new confidence. I stocked up on the shampoo because I had never been so pleased with a hair care product before. I gave some to a friend who has the same scalp problems I do and she loved it so much I decided I'd buy some more for both of us since I was running out at the time. I didn't realize the formula had changed. When I got the product, I thought I'd received a counterfeit. The color, consistency, and smell were all wrong. I tried it anyway and have regretted it ever since. My hair is limp with less curl and feels greasy and weighted down. But the worst is my scalp. Where the old formula kept most of my symptoms at bay, the new one is like pouring gasoline on a fire. My scalp is irritated, red, oily, flaky, and it got so bad I had to change my hairstyle to try to hide the flare-up on my hairline and forehead. This is a completely different product now, and shouldn't be sold as the same thing. I'm not confident in using Shea Moisture as my go-to brand for skin and hair care any more. I feel like replacing all SM products I use after this - shampoo, conditioner, soap, hair styling products, facial cleanser, face cream, masques - if the formula of a product I love can be changed so drastically with no notice. It's one thing to discontinue a product, and another to quietly change it to something unusable.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Lissa from Disappointed I wish shea moisture would not have changed this shampoo. It worked so well on my dry scalp. I was bummed when I noticed it was different and was not as effective. I wish they would inform us why they changed it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by SHANJD from False Advertisment They have changed the old formula and it does NOT work!! My hair is really flaky and itchy and I have to wash my hair just about every week to help reduce the itch. First time using the old formula, I did not have to wash my hair for about 3 weeks!!! No other shampoo has ever done that!!! The old formula saved me tons of money and a trip to the dermatologist. If Shea Moisture really cares about their customers, they will bring back the old formula!! New formula didn't do anything for my hair!! It was hard to get a good lather and did not cleanse my scalp. I thought maybe I just didn't wash my hair good first go round with the new bottle...NO! After the third attempt, I just threw the bottle away. Just as I was about to stock up, they go and change it as if we wouldn't notice. New shampoo is so trash it doesn't even deserve one star! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CONSUMERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOTTLE OF SHAMPOO!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FALSE ADVERTISEMENT!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by amandaj80 from THE WORST FORMULA Please change back to the original formula. This new formula is much too greasy and causes more build up on my hair, which leads to an even itchier, flakier scalp. The old formula was magic! Please go back to the original!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by repinuj from Did a lot of research - disappointed they changed I'm doing a new care routine for my wavy hair - and that has been leaving product residue and a flakey scalp. I researched the best clarifying shampoos, and this one made a few lists. The good price point meant I wanted to try it! Firstly, it doesn't lather AT ALL. Fine, I know that's not necessarily a marker of how clean your hair is getting, so I kept an open mind. But basically in the end instead of clarifying it seems like this shampoo just deposits oils and weight. My hair felt LESS clean after using it. The opposite of what I want in a weekly clarifying routine. I was wondering why so many people had recommended it in online lists - and now see that it's a new formula. If you're going to change a shampoo THAT much you should just discontinue one and make a new one. I feel like this is a bait and switch. Very disappointed and I wish I could return it.

I've got thick, curly and dry Indian hair along with a dry itchy scalp. I've also recently come to realise that my hair is of low porosity after doing the float test. Is this product suitable for me?
Yes, this product is a great option for low porosity hair types and scalp issues. Ingredients like African black soap, willow bark extract and tea tree oil will help cleanse and balance the oils on your scalp!

Was interested in buying this but I see a lot of unhappy customers with reviews on the new formula, is the formula back to the original or is it still the new one?
Hi Miss_V, Currently we do not have any plans on returning to a previous formula. This updated formula has been updated and is more efficient at balancing hair and scalp and removing build up.

Can I use this shampoo every week since it is labeled as a clarifying shampoo which should only be used once per month?
Hi Charlene, This product is actually safe to use daily. But you can use it once a week if you prefer.
